Dedication
This song was written in memory
of my brother-in-law, Terence McShane, who died at the World
Trade Center on September 11, 2001, at the age
of thirty-seven.
Terence was a devoted husband to my sister, Cathy, and an incredible dad to Aidan, Colin & Sean. Aidan was seven years old, and twins Colin & Sean were four years old, when their father died. Terence was loved – and is missed – by a wide circle of family members, colleagues, and many, many friends.
It was a great pleasure to record this song with Joan Harrison (wife of Terence’s brother, Brian) and her Too Blue band mates, along with Terence’s sixteen-year-old nephew, Kieran McShane (son of Terence’s brother, Kieran), and my terrific nephew, Aidan McShane, now twelve.
Terence’s career was spent helping and protecting others – as a lifeguard, a police officer, and, finally, as a firefighter. In his memory, 100% of net proceeds from sales of this CD will benefit, in equal parts:
- The New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, dedicated to the advancement of burn care, research, prevention, education, and the proper treatment of burns.
- The Nature Conservancy, working to protect our lands and waters, including the Long Island beaches Terence loved.
If you had the chance to enjoy Terence’s quick wit and quiet wisdom, you were fortunate, indeed. If you never met Terence, maybe you’ll get to know him a little bit through this song. In either case, I hope you’ll sing along.
